Smitty's Awesome Gourmet Hot Dogs
Carlos Munoz previously started a business, Cali Grill restaurant in Tulare. Business was very slow and ultimately closed. He then obtained a job at Smittys Awesome Gourmet Hot Dogs and when the 81 year old owner decided to retire sell the business to Carlos for $19,200. The owner will hold the note and Carlos will pay him $400 per month for four years. His breakeven is $161 per day in sales or $2,271 in expenses per month. Carlos works full time with the help of his wife and son who work part time. He will be applying for a loan for $5,000 to purchase a hot dog cart to sell his products at parks and outdoor events. He has worked extensively with the Tulare Kings SBDC during the business start up process and they are now assisting him with marketing and promotion along with his micro loan. This is an example of how a business owner lost his business due to the slowdown of the economy but did not get deterred and is pursuing his dream.
